tl;dr: honest reviews of 8 shopping malls in patna with brand lists, food court options, parking, and timings. p&m mall, city centre, one mall, and more.

tldr: p&m mall in patliputra is the best mall in patna overall, best brands, food court, and cinema. city centre on buddh marg is good for south patna shoppers. moin centre is not a mall in the traditional sense but has the best street-level shopping energy. full reviews with brand lists, food options, and parking info below.

every time i visit patna, the mall scene has changed. five years ago, asking about shopping malls in patna would get you laughed at. there was p&m mall and that was basically it. now there are multiple malls, more under construction, and the whole retail landscape is shifting from traditional markets to organized retail.

but let me be upfront. patna’s malls are not ambience mall gurgaon or phoenix mumbai. if you walk in expecting that, you’ll be disappointed. what patna’s malls offer is air-conditioned shopping with brand availability that didn’t exist here even 3-4 years ago. for a city that relied entirely on hathua market and boring road shops for decades, this is a massive upgrade.

i’ve visited most of these during trips home, dragged to some by cousins, explored others out of curiosity. my family in patna has strong opinions about which mall is worth visiting and which is a waste of time. this guide is a mix of personal experience and their local intel.

tier 1: proper malls

these are the malls that actually feel like malls. multiple floors, brand stores, food courts, escalators, the whole thing. patna has exactly two of these.

1. p&m mall

patliputra/kurji / 80+ stores / 8/10

p&m mall is the best shopping mall in patna, and it’s not particularly close. this is the one mall in the city that you could drop into any tier-2 city in india and it would hold its own. multiple floors of branded retail, a functional food court, a cinema, and enough parking to not make you want to give up before you even enter.

the brand list is solid. you get levis, nike, adidas, us polo, allen solly, van heusen, peter england, pantaloons, reliance trends, max fashion, and more. the ground floor has the premium brands, upper floors have mid-range options. there’s a croma for electronics, which is genuinely useful because electronics shopping in patna used to mean nehru place-style chaos at moin centre.

the food court on the top floor has kfc, dominos, subway, and a bunch of local food stalls. my cousin’s kids treat p&m mall food court as a weekend ritual. 17 degrees restaurant is also in this mall, one of patna’s better restaurants with a rooftop bar and decent food.

the cinema is a big draw. before malls, watching a movie in patna meant going to old single-screen theatres. now you get multiplex seating, proper sound systems, and online booking. the difference matters.

parking: multi-level parking that actually works. it gets full on weekends and holidays, especially around movie times. paid parking, rs 20-30 for cars. arrive before 5 pm on weekends or you’ll circle the lot.

timings: 10:30 am to 9:30 pm daily. food court stays open till 10 pm.

the catch: it’s in kurji/patliputra, which is north patna. if you live in kankarbagh or south patna, getting here takes 30-45 minutes in traffic. the weekend crowds can be overwhelming, with families treating it as a picnic spot rather than a shopping destination. and some of the store staff can be indifferent, a common complaint across patna retail.

verdict: the best mall in patna by a clear margin. if you want a proper mall experience with branded shopping, food, and entertainment under one roof, this is the only real answer.

2. city centre mall

buddh marg / 50+ stores / 7.5/10

city centre is patna’s second real mall and it benefits from a much more central location on buddh marg. it’s easier to access from most parts of the city compared to p&m mall. the building is modern, the interiors are well-maintained, and it has a decent mix of brands.

you get pantaloons, max, lifestyle, reliance digital, and several clothing brands across multiple floors. the ground floor has some premium stores and a couple of accessories shops. the overall brand selection is slightly smaller than p&m mall but enough for most shopping needs.

the food court is on the upper floors. it’s smaller than p&m mall’s but functional. the highlight is afraa restaurant on the rooftop, which is one of patna’s better dining spots with good ambience and views. worth visiting even if you’re not shopping.

parking: basement parking available. paid, and it fills up fast on weekends. the buddh marg location means street parking is chaotic and traffic around the mall can be brutal during peak hours.

timings: 10:30 am to 9:30 pm. some stores open by 11 am.

the catch: the mall feels slightly cramped compared to p&m mall. the corridors are narrower, the escalator setup is a bit awkward, and on busy days it feels packed. the parking situation is genuinely stressful. and the area around buddh marg is congested, so getting in and out takes patience.

verdict: the best mall for people living in south or central patna. convenient location, decent brands, and afraa restaurant is a bonus. not as spacious or well-stocked as p&m mall, but you save the commute.

tier 2: smaller malls and shopping centres

these are buildings that call themselves malls but are really large shopping centres. they have stores, maybe a food option or two, but they lack the full mall experience of food courts, cinema, and entertainment.

3. one mall

fraser road / 30+ stores / 6.5/10

one mall is on fraser road, which gives it a prime central location. it’s a mid-sized shopping centre with a few branded stores, some local shops, and foresto paradise restaurant which kids love for its jungle theme. the building looks modern from outside but the interiors feel a bit dated.

the brand selection is limited compared to p&m and city centre. you get some clothing brands, a few accessories stores, and a couple of electronics shops. it’s more of a convenience stop than a destination shopping experience.

the real advantage is location. fraser road is still one of patna’s main commercial streets, and if you’re already in the area for work or eating at tandoor hut, you can pop in for quick shopping.

parking: very limited. fraser road parking is a nightmare in general. you’re better off taking an auto or cab.

timings: 10:30 am to 9 pm.

the catch: it feels like a large shop more than a mall. the footfall has dropped since p&m mall and city centre opened, and some stores have closed. it’s functional but not exciting.

verdict: convenient if you’re on fraser road anyway. not worth a special trip.

4. durga infinity mall

bailey road / 25+ stores / 6/10

located on bailey road, durga infinity mall houses barbeque nation on its upper floor, which is honestly the main reason most people know this building exists. the mall section below has some clothing stores, a few accessories shops, and general retail.

the brand presence is minimal. this is more of a mixed-use commercial building that happens to have some retail space. you won’t find premium brands here, but there are some decent mid-range clothing options and a few shoe stores.

parking: limited. bailey road traffic makes parking a challenge. there’s some space in front of the building but it fills up quickly.

timings: 10:30 am to 9 pm. barbeque nation has its own timings for lunch and dinner.

the catch: calling this a mall is generous. it’s a commercial building with some shops and a popular restaurant on top. the foot traffic is low on the shopping floors, and several units have closed or changed hands.

verdict: go for barbeque nation. the mall part is skippable.

5. jd hi street mall

boring road / 20+ stores / 6/10

boring road is patna’s main commercial strip, and jd hi street is a vertical mall here with a few floors of retail. it has some clothing brands, a couple of food outlets, and benefits from the boring road location which draws shoppers regardless.

the stores here are a mix of branded and local. you’ll find some decent options for casual wear and accessories. the building is narrow and each floor has limited shops, so it feels more like a tower of individual stores than a cohesive mall experience.

parking: basement parking available but tight. boring road has its own street parking chaos to deal with. best visited on foot if you’re already in the area.

timings: 10:30 am to 9 pm.

the catch: very small. you can walk through the entire mall in 10 minutes. the stores change frequently, which means you can never be sure what’s open. the building maintenance could be better.

verdict: worth a look if you’re shopping on boring road anyway. not a destination by itself.

tier 3: traditional shopping centres

these aren’t malls in the modern sense. they’re markets or commercial complexes that have been around for decades and offer a completely different shopping experience, one that’s more patna than any mall could ever be.

6. moin centre

exhibition road / 100+ shops / 7/10

moin centre isn’t a mall. it’s a massive multi-storey commercial complex near exhibition road that’s been one of patna’s main electronics and gadget hubs for years. every floor is packed with small shops selling phones, laptops, accessories, repair services, and spare parts. this is where patna goes to buy electronics.

the prices here are competitive because every shop is trying to undercut the next one. you can bargain, which you can’t do at croma in p&m mall. the selection is vast, from the latest iphones to budget android phones, from gaming laptops to basic notebooks. shop owners know their products and will demonstrate everything before you buy.

my family still buys electronics from moin centre. my cousin got his laptop here last year after comparing prices with amazon and flipkart, and the moin centre price was actually lower after negotiation. that doesn’t always happen, but the point is you can negotiate here.

parking: absolutely none. exhibition road parking is street-level chaos. take an auto or walk from the nearest main road.

timings: 10 am to 8:30 pm. closed on sundays (some shops stay open).

the catch: it’s chaotic. the corridors are narrow, it gets extremely crowded, and you need to know what you want before you walk in. if you’re the type who likes browsing peacefully, this is not your place. warranty and after-sales support can be spotty from smaller shops. always get a proper bill and warranty card.

verdict: the best place in patna for electronics shopping if you know what you want and can bargain. not a mall experience, but the prices and selection beat any mall store.

7. budget mall

kankarbagh / 40+ shops / 5/10

budget mall in kankarbagh is exactly what the name suggests, budget shopping in a building that calls itself a mall. it has small shops selling clothing, footwear, accessories, and household items at lower prices than branded stores. the target audience is clearly budget-conscious shoppers, and it delivers on that promise.

the quality is mixed. you’ll find decent options if you have the patience to sift through, but don’t expect branded merchandise unless it’s local or unbranded. this is more of a market packed into a building than an actual mall.

parking: street parking only. kankarbagh roads are generally manageable.

timings: 10 am to 9 pm.

the catch: the “mall” label is misleading. this is a budget shopping complex, and that’s fine, but setting expectations correctly matters. air conditioning is spotty, the stores are small, and the overall experience is more bazaar than boutique.

verdict: good for budget shopping if you’re in kankarbagh. don’t make a special trip.

8. patliputra mall

patliputra colony / 15+ stores / 5.5/10

a small commercial complex in patliputra colony with a handful of stores. it has some clothing shops, a couple of food outlets, and serves the local residential area more than attracting shoppers from across the city.

the location in patliputra colony means it’s near some of patna’s better residential areas, so the stores tend to be slightly more upscale than budget mall or similar places. but the overall size is very small and the brand presence is minimal.

parking: adequate for the size. parking in patliputra colony is generally easier than central patna.

timings: 10:30 am to 9 pm.

the catch: too small to be a destination. feels more like a local market than a mall.

verdict: only relevant if you live in patliputra colony. otherwise, go to p&m mall which is not far away.

malls under construction and upcoming

patna’s mall scene is growing. there are several projects in various stages of construction across the city. the eastern mall on saguna more road has been talked about for years. patna’s retail growth is tied to the city’s overall development, and if the infrastructure changes continue at the current pace, we could see 2-3 more proper malls in the next few years.

the reality though is that construction timelines in patna are unpredictable. projects get delayed by years, sometimes decades. so take any “upcoming mall” announcements with a large grain of salt. what’s confirmed is that organized retail is growing, more national brands are entering patna, and the demand for mall-style shopping is clearly there.

my honest tips for mall shopping in patna

  1. weekdays are significantly better. patna malls on weekends are a zoo. families treat malls as entertainment venues, which means crowds, noise, and long wait times at food courts. if you’re actually there to shop, go on a tuesday or wednesday.

  2. compare prices with online. many brands in patna malls charge mrp, no discounts. amazon and flipkart often have better deals. check online prices before buying. moin centre is the exception because you can negotiate there.

  3. p&m mall is the only real mall experience. i know this sounds harsh, but if someone asks me “where should i go mall shopping in patna,” the honest answer is p&m mall. everything else is either too small, too poorly stocked, or not really a mall.

  4. carry cash at moin centre. while upi works at most places, smaller shops in moin centre sometimes prefer cash, especially if you’re negotiating a discount.

  5. for traditional shopping, skip malls entirely. if you want sarees, jewellery, or traditional bihari products, hathua market and patna city market are where you should go. malls don’t do traditional shopping well.

the bigger picture

the growth of malls in patna is part of a larger shift. the cost of living in patna is rising, disposable income is increasing, and shopping habits are changing. my relatives who used to buy everything from local markets now split their shopping between malls and markets, malls for branded stuff, markets for everything else.

the mall culture is also changing how areas in patna develop. patliputra colony became more desirable partly because of p&m mall. boring road’s commercial value is tied to its shops and small malls. kankarbagh is waiting for a proper mall, and when it gets one, property prices will probably respond.

patna isn’t a “mall city” yet, not like bengaluru or gurgaon or even jaipur. but it’s getting there. and for a city where organized retail barely existed 10 years ago, having 2-3 genuinely decent malls is progress.
