tl;dr: reviews of 15 bars and pubs in kolkata with prices and ratings. park street legends, salt lake rooftops, live music venues, and the city's unique drinking culture.
tldr: top 3 from 15 bars - the grid (best cocktails, park street, rs 1800 for two), roxy (the 1920s legend, park street, rs 1200 for two), and some place else (best live music venue in the country, park hotel, rs 2000 for two). full reviews with vibe, prices, and honest opinions below.
i haven’t visited kolkata yet. this guide is based on extensive research - local blogs, google reviews, reddit threads, and recommendations from bengali friends.
park street is the drinking street of india. no other road in any indian city has this concentration of bars, pubs, restaurants, and nightlife crammed into one stretch. colaba in mumbai comes close. mg road in bangalore had its moment. hauz khas in delhi had its run. but park street has been the center of indian nightlife since before independence. the bars here opened when india was still british, and some of them are still open.
kolkata’s drinking culture is fundamentally different from other indian cities. in mumbai, drinking is expensive and aspirational. in bangalore, it’s craft beer and microbreweries. in delhi, it’s bottle service and loud music. in kolkata, drinking is tied to adda. you don’t go to a bar to be seen. you go to sit with friends, argue about satyajit ray vs ritwik ghatak, complain about the bengal cricket team, and order another round of whisky because the conversation got interesting.
the result is a bar scene that’s less flashy but more genuine than most indian cities. prices are lower. pretension is lower. and the average conversation at a kolkata bar is more interesting than the average conversation at a delhi lounge.
there’s also the geographic split. park street is the heritage zone. the bars here are decades old, the buildings have character, and the energy is a mix of old kolkata and new kolkata colliding. salt lake and new town are the modern zone. the bars are purpose-built, the crowd is younger, and the vibe is more corporate. the rooftop scene is spread across both zones, but the best rooftops are in park circus and salt lake. understanding this geography helps you pick the right bar for the right night.
one more thing: kolkata’s drinking is distinctly whisky-forward. while bangalore went craft beer and mumbai chases cocktails, kolkata still loves its whisky. the average kolkata drinker has a whisky brand they’ve been loyal to for years. rum is a close second. beer is popular but less culturally central. the cocktail scene is emerging, led by places like the grid, but it’s still young.
prices are from 2026. everything rated out of 10 based on aggregated reviews. no one paid me for this.

park street legends
park street after dark is one of india’s great urban experiences. the neon signs, the old buildings, the mix of heritage restaurants and new bars, the sound of live music spilling out of doorways. this is where kolkata comes alive at night. these are the bars that made park street famous.
1. the grid
park street / cocktails, mixology / rs 1800 for two / 8.5/10
the grid is reportedly the best cocktail bar in kolkata right now. it’s what happens when kolkata finally gets serious about mixology. the space is sleek without being pretentious. dark interiors, good lighting, comfortable seating. the kind of bar where you can actually have a conversation without shouting.
the cocktail menu is where the grid separates itself from every other kolkata bar. locals say the bartenders here actually know what they’re doing, unlike the average kolkata bar where a “cocktail” means vodka with sprite. expect creative drinks using local ingredients, proper technique, and presentation that doesn’t feel like it’s trying too hard. the whisky sour and old fashioned are reportedly excellent. the food menu is above average for a bar.
based on reviews, the only complaints are about weekend crowds and occasionally slow service when it’s packed. weekday evenings are apparently the sweet spot. the prices are higher than the kolkata average but lower than what you’d pay for comparable cocktails in mumbai or delhi.
the crowd is reportedly kolkata’s young professional class. people who’ve been to bars in bangalore and mumbai and wanted something similar at home. the dress code is casual smart. the noise levels are manageable on weeknights, louder on weekends. based on reviews, the staff is knowledgeable about the menu and can recommend drinks based on preferences, which is rarer than it should be in kolkata bars.
verdict: the best cocktail experience in kolkata. go on a weeknight for the full experience.
2. roxy
park street / heritage bar, since 1920s / rs 1200 for two / 8.5/10
roxy is not just a bar. it’s a piece of kolkata history. reportedly open since the 1920s, this is one of the oldest continuously operating bars in india. the space has that old kolkata feel. dim lighting, wooden interiors, the kind of patina that you can’t fake. the walls have absorbed a century of conversations, and it shows.
the drinks are straightforward. this isn’t a cocktail bar. this is a whisky bar. rum bar. beer bar. you order your drink, it comes in a glass, and you drink it while having adda with your friends. the pricing is moderate for park street, and the regulars here are a fascinating mix of old kolkata gentlemen who’ve been coming for decades and younger crowds discovering the place.
locals say roxy gets wonderfully atmospheric after 10 pm on weekends. the music is usually classic rock or retro bollywood. the crowd is mixed age, mixed background, united by the fact that they chose roxy over one of the flashier options on the street. the food is basic bar fare, nothing remarkable, but nobody comes to roxy for the food.
the bar also has a reputation for being welcoming to solo drinkers. based on reviews, you can walk in alone, sit at the bar, and the regulars will pull you into a conversation. this is the adda culture at work. you don’t drink alone in kolkata. the bar becomes the conversation partner if your friends don’t show up.
verdict: drink history. one of the most atmospheric bars in india. go late, order whisky, and soak in a century of kolkata nightlife.
3. some place else
the park hotel, park street / live music, beer / rs 2000 for two / 8.5/10
some place else at the park hotel is arguably the best live music venue in india. that’s a big claim, but locals and musicians back it up consistently. the venue has been hosting live bands since the 1970s, and its stage has seen everyone from local kolkata rock bands to national touring acts. the sound system is reportedly excellent for a venue this intimate.
the space is dark, compact, and designed for live music. the acoustics work. the stage is visible from most seats. the energy on a good night, when a solid band is playing and the crowd is into it, is reportedly electric. this isn’t a lounge where music plays in the background. this is a music venue where you happen to be drinking.
the beer selection is decent. cocktails are hotel-bar standard, meaning competent but not exciting. food is secondary. the cover charge on live music nights varies, typically rs 500-1000 per person which usually includes a drink or two. based on reviews, friday and saturday nights are the best, but check the schedule because it depends entirely on who’s playing.
kolkata’s relationship with live music is deeper than most indian cities. this is the city that birthed india’s rock music scene in the 1960s and 70s. bands like mohiner ghoraguli, cactus, and fossils came from here. some place else was the stage where many of these bands first played. that history is embedded in the walls. when you sit in some place else and watch a band play, you’re participating in a tradition that’s half a century old. that matters.
verdict: kolkata’s greatest contribution to india’s live music scene. go on a night when a good band is playing and it’s the best rs 2000 you’ll spend.
4. peter cat bar section
park street / chelo kebab, colonial bar / rs 1200 for two / 7.5/10
peter cat is famous for its chelo kebab, not its bar. but the bar section deserves its own mention because the combination of a strong drink and peter cat’s legendary chelo kebab is one of park street’s essential experiences. the bar area has that old park street charm. retro interiors, dim lighting, the kind of place that hasn’t changed in decades and is better for it.
the drinks are standard. beer, whisky, rum, basic cocktails. nothing creative, nothing terrible. what makes peter cat’s bar work is the context. you’re sitting in one of kolkata’s most iconic restaurants, eating arguably the city’s most famous dish, drinking a cold beer or whisky. the sum is greater than the parts. the chelo kebab itself is a massive plate of saffron rice with seekh kebabs, an egg, pat of butter, and gravy. it’s designed to be shared with drinks. the portions are generous enough that two people can share one plate and a couple of whisky glasses and call it dinner.
the queue for peter cat is legendary, especially on weekends. locals say the trick is to go on a weekday evening, grab a bar seat, and order a chelo kebab with your drink. skip the weekend dinner rush entirely. the bar section reportedly has a shorter wait than the main dining area. the staff has been working here for decades, and the service has that old-school attentiveness. they’ll remember your drink order if you come back.
verdict: not a destination bar, but the chelo kebab plus whisky combination is a park street rite of passage.
5. one step up
park street / rooftop, food, drinks / rs 1600 for two / 7/10
one step up gives you something most park street bars can’t: a rooftop view. the terrace section offers decent views of the park street area, and on a cool kolkata evening, it’s a pleasant spot. the interior is multi-level with different seating areas. based on reviews, the vibe is more restaurant-bar than dedicated drinking spot.
the menu covers a lot of ground. north indian, chinese, continental, plus a full bar menu. cocktails are reportedly average. beer is reliable. the food is decent enough. the strength here is the setting and the rooftop, not the drinks. locals mention that it gets very crowded on weekend nights and the service can slow to a crawl.
the pricing is moderate for park street. it’s a solid option if you want to eat and drink in the same place with a view, but not if you’re looking for a serious bar experience. the rooftop is reportedly the best section, so request it when you arrive.
verdict: decent rooftop option on park street. good for dinner with drinks, not for a dedicated bar night.
salt lake and new town modern
salt lake sector V is kolkata’s IT hub, and new town (rajarhat) is the city’s newest urban development. the bars here are modern, purpose-built, and cater to the tech and corporate crowd. they lack the heritage of park street, but they’re newer, often larger, and tend to have better parking.
6. refinery 091
salt lake / modern cocktails, lounge / rs 1800 for two / 8/10
refinery 091 is reportedly the best bar in the salt lake/new town belt. while park street has the history, refinery has the modernity. the space is well-designed. industrial-chic interiors, good lighting, a proper bar counter where you can watch your drinks being made. it feels like it belongs in bangalore’s indiranagar, not salt lake sector V.
the cocktail menu is reportedly strong. locals say this is one of the few bars in kolkata outside park street where the bartenders actually understand cocktail-making. the whisky selection is above average. the food menu leans pan-asian and is decent. based on reviews, the weekend DJ nights bring a younger crowd and louder music.
pricing is on par with the grid, making it one of the pricier options in the salt lake area. but based on the quality of drinks and the space, it seems fair. the location makes it convenient for the IT crowd, and reviews suggest it’s become the default “nice bar” for the sector V after-work scene.
the weekend crowd reportedly skews younger than park street. the IT crowd brings its own energy. less literary adda, more work complaints and cricket arguments. the bar handles the transition from after-work drinks (6-8 pm, quieter) to evening party (9 pm onwards, louder) smoothly. the outdoor seating area, when available, is reportedly pleasant for the early evening slot.
verdict: the best bar east of the maidan. finally gives salt lake a drinking spot that competes with park street.
7. underdoggs
new town / sports bar, beer, screens / rs 1400 for two / 7/10
underdoggs is a chain sports bar, and it does what chain sports bars do. big screens everywhere. beer on tap. a menu of bar snacks and american-style food. during IPL season and cricket matches, this place reportedly fills up and gets loud. it’s not trying to be sophisticated and that’s fine.
the beer selection includes drafts, which is something not every kolkata bar offers. the cocktails are basic. the food is passable. wings, nachos, burgers, sliders. based on reviews, the portions are generous and the pricing is reasonable for the format. the space is large enough to accommodate big groups, which makes it a popular corporate outing spot.
locals say underdoggs works best for what it is: a place to watch a match with friends, drink beer, eat fried food, and be loud about it. don’t go expecting artisanal cocktails or intimate conversation. this is a volume bar.
verdict: the best sports bar in kolkata. go during IPL or a big match. skip it otherwise.
8. knockout
salt lake / budget bar, pitchers, casual / rs 900 for two / 7/10
knockout is the bar you go to when you’re 24 and on a budget and you want to drink without spending your entire salary. the pitchers are cheap. the beer is cold. the food is basic. the crowd is young, mostly college students and early-career IT professionals from sector V.
the space is nothing remarkable. standard bar interiors, decent enough music, adequate lighting. based on reviews, the service is fast because they know their crowd. people come to drink, not to linger over a single cocktail. the pitcher pricing is reportedly the best value for beer drinking in the salt lake area.
locals mention that knockout gets very loud on weekends. the music goes up, the conversations get louder, and by 11 pm it’s essentially a party. if that’s your scene, great. if you want to have a conversation, go on a weeknight or pick another bar. the food is forgettable but cheap.
the location near sector V means it catches the post-work crowd from the IT offices. based on reviews, the 7-9 pm window is the sweet spot. early enough to get a table, late enough that the energy has built up. the bartenders are fast, the music is loud, and the overall energy is young and unfiltered. it’s the closest kolkata gets to a college bar experience. no judgement, no dress code, just cheap beer and good energy.
verdict: the cheapest way to drink in salt lake. solid for groups on a budget. not for a date.
9. the biker’s cafe
new town / biker theme, live music, food / rs 1200 for two / 7/10
the biker’s cafe does something different for kolkata’s bar scene. the theme is motorcycles. the decor features bike parts, helmets, and motorcycle memorabilia. it’s a niche that works. based on reviews, the space attracts a genuine biker crowd alongside the general new town drinking public.
the food is reportedly better than expected. burgers, steaks, grills, and some indian options. the drink menu is standard but adequate. they occasionally host live music nights, which locals say are among the better live music experiences in new town. the outdoor seating area is a big draw during winter months.
pricing is moderate. the crowd is mixed, slightly older than the average new town bar, which is refreshing. based on reviews, the vibe is laid-back and unpretentious. this is a place where you can show up in riding gear or office clothes and nobody cares. the weekday evenings are reportedly the best time to visit.
verdict: a refreshing change from the standard lounge bar format. good food, decent drinks, and actual character.
10. echoes
new town / modern lounge, DJ nights / rs 1500 for two / 7/10
echoes is new town’s attempt at a proper lounge bar. the interiors are modern. the lighting is mood-appropriate. the music on DJ nights is reportedly decent, leaning electronic and commercial bollywood. it’s the kind of bar that would feel generic in bangalore but stands out in new town because the competition is thin.
the cocktail menu is standard lounge fare. the food is pan-asian meets north indian. based on reviews, nothing is exceptional but nothing is terrible either. the mocktail selection is reportedly good, which suggests a crowd that includes non-drinkers. the pricing is moderate for the ambience, though locals say you’re paying a premium for the interiors rather than the drinks.
the weekend crowd is young and dressed up. this is a “going out” bar, not a “dropping in after work” bar. based on reviews, it’s popular for birthday celebrations and group outings. the DJ nights can get crowded and loud. table reservations on weekends are apparently advisable.
verdict: perfectly adequate modern lounge. fills a gap in new town but doesn’t do anything remarkable.
rooftop bars
kolkata’s weather makes rooftop bars a seasonal affair. winter (november to february) is the sweet spot. summers are brutal, and monsoon makes outdoor seating impossible. but during those cool winter evenings, a rooftop bar in kolkata is hard to beat.
11. aqua
park circus / rooftop, views, cocktails / rs 1600 for two / 8/10
aqua is reportedly the best rooftop bar in kolkata. the views are the selling point. you get a panoramic view of the kolkata skyline, and on a clear winter evening, the combination of the view, a good drink, and the cool breeze is reportedly worth the trip to park circus.
the cocktail menu is above average. locals say the bartenders here are competent, and the drinks are consistently made. the food is decent. indian, continental, some pan-asian options. nothing groundbreaking but solid enough to pair with drinks. based on reviews, the starters are better than the mains.
the price point is moderate to high. you’re paying for the rooftop experience, and based on reviews, it’s a fair trade. the space reportedly fills up fast on weekend evenings, and reservations are recommended during winter months. the ambience after sunset, when the city lights come on, is apparently the highlight.
the food menu is worth ordering from. based on reviews, the starters work better than the mains. the paneer tikka and chicken wings are reportedly reliable. the cocktail pricing is moderate to high, but the rooftop premium is fair when the weather cooperates. during summer and monsoon, the rooftop is reportedly unusable or unpleasant, so the bar effectively becomes a seasonal experience at its best.
verdict: the best rooftop drinking experience in kolkata. go on a clear winter evening. book ahead on weekends.
12. ozora
salt lake / rooftop, party vibe, cocktails / rs 1500 for two / 7.5/10
ozora is the salt lake answer to aqua. a rooftop bar with decent views, a party-oriented vibe, and a younger crowd than most park street establishments. based on reviews, the space is well-maintained and the rooftop section is the clear highlight. the indoor area is reportedly less impressive.
the drinks are standard. cocktails, beer, spirits. nothing particularly creative, but competently served. the food is better than expected for a party-oriented bar. locals mention that the DJ nights on weekends draw a big crowd and the energy gets high. the music leans commercial bollywood and EDM, which is either a draw or a deterrent depending on your taste.
pricing is reasonable for a rooftop bar. based on reviews, the weekend crowd can make it feel overcrowded, and the service slows down significantly when it’s packed. weekday evenings are reportedly much more pleasant, with space to actually enjoy the rooftop. the winter season is peak time.
the staff is reportedly helpful and the cocktail service is competent if not creative. the hookah is available and reportedly popular with the younger crowd. the restrooms are clean, which sounds like a low bar but matters more than you’d think at party-oriented bars. the water and mixer pricing is reasonable, unlike some bars that mark up mixers absurdly.
verdict: good rooftop option in salt lake. better on weekdays when you can actually enjoy the view without the crowd.
chain pubs and casual spots
these are the bars for everyday drinking. not special occasions, not date nights. just a cold beer after work with friends and colleagues. kolkata does this well because the prices are lower and the attitude is more relaxed than most indian metros.
13. olly pub
multiple locations / budget beer, casual, no frills / rs 800 for two / 7.5/10
olly pub is kolkata’s everyman bar. multiple locations across the city. cheap beer. basic food. zero pretension. this is where kolkata goes for a regular night out when nobody wants to plan or spend. the formula works because it’s simple and honest. cold beer, some starters, decent enough ambience, and you’re out at rs 800 for two.
based on reviews, the beer is consistently cold and the pricing is the cheapest you’ll find in an organized bar in kolkata. the food is standard bar fare: chilli chicken, fish fry, paneer tikka. nothing remarkable, but it gets the job done. the service is fast because the model runs on volume, not lingering.
locals say olly pub is the bar you suggest when nobody can agree on where to go. it’s always acceptable, never exciting. the locations vary in quality, with some outlets reportedly better maintained than others. check google reviews for the specific branch before heading there.
verdict: the most accessible bar in kolkata. cheap, unpretentious, and everywhere. perfect for a casual beer.
14. lord of the drinks
salt lake / lounge, hookah, music / rs 1600 for two / 7/10
lord of the drinks is a chain that exists in delhi and mumbai too, and the kolkata outlet reportedly maintains the same formula. big space, hookah menu, cocktails, DJ music on weekends. it’s a lounge bar, meaning you go for the ambience and the sitting, not specifically for the drinks.
the cocktail menu is extensive but reportedly middling in execution. locals say the LIIT is the safest bet. the hookah is a big draw, and based on reviews, a significant portion of the crowd is there for the hookah as much as the alcohol. the food is multi-cuisine and adequate. the space is large enough for groups, which makes it popular for corporate gatherings and birthday parties.
the pricing is moderate. based on reviews, the weekend DJ nights are loud and crowded. the weekday vibe is more relaxed and better for conversation. the salt lake location benefits from ample parking, which is a real consideration in kolkata.
the presentation is better than the substance, which is a common complaint about lounge bars everywhere. the glasses are fancy, the garnishes are present, but the actual drink construction is reportedly average. for hookah enthusiasts, lord of the drinks reportedly has the widest flavor selection in the salt lake area. the hookah setup is well-maintained and the coal management is reportedly good, which is apparently a bigger issue at cheaper hookah bars.
verdict: standard chain lounge. works for hookah and groups. nothing distinctive about the bar experience itself.
15. irish house
quest mall / pub grub, beer, casual / rs 1400 for two / 7/10
irish house in quest mall brings the pub chain format to kolkata’s premium mall. the location is convenient for a post-shopping drink or a casual meal with friends. the beer selection is reportedly the strongest part of the menu, with craft beer options that are harder to find elsewhere in kolkata.
the food follows the irish pub template: fish and chips, burgers, loaded fries, some indian options. based on reviews, the food is reliable and portions are decent. the cocktails are competent but not the reason to visit. the ambience is typical pub chain: wood interiors, warm lighting, sports on screens.
locals say irish house works well as a meeting point because of its mall location and the predictable quality. you know exactly what you’re getting. no surprises, good or bad. the weekend evenings get crowded with the mall traffic, and seating can be an issue. weekday afternoons reportedly have the best atmosphere for a relaxed pint.
verdict: solid pub chain in a convenient location. good for a reliable beer and pub food. the quest mall location makes it accessible.
what to drink in kolkata
whisky
the default kolkata drink. the city has a strong whisky culture, and the average kolkata drinker knows their brands well. the popular choices range from officer’s choice and royal stag (budget) to blenders pride and teacher’s (mid-range) to black dog and johnnie walker (premium). at bars, a standard whisky peg costs rs 150-300 at budget bars and rs 300-600 at premium bars. kolkata’s whisky culture reportedly includes a strong preference for drinking whisky with water or soda, not as cocktails. ordering a whisky neat or on the rocks is common and respected.
rum
kolkata’s second love. old monk has a devoted following in the city, and its warm, sweet profile works perfectly in kolkata’s winter. other popular rums include bacardi and captain morgan at bars. rum and coke is the standard order. at budget bars, expect rs 100-200 per peg.
beer
kingfisher, budweiser, and bira dominate. the craft beer scene is minimal compared to bangalore or pune. a beer at a budget bar costs rs 150-250. at premium bars, rs 250-500. draught beer is available at chains like underdoggs and irish house. based on reviews, kolkata’s beer scene is the weakest part of the drinking culture, mainly because the city’s heart belongs to spirits.
cocktails
a growing scene but still young. the grid and refinery 091 are leading the cocktail revolution. most other bars serve basic cocktails (LIIT, screwdriver, gin and tonic) competently but not creatively. if cocktails are your priority, stick to the grid.
tips for drinking in kolkata
-
park street is the default. if you have one night to drink in kolkata, spend it on park street. walk from one end to the other, pick a bar, and sit. the street itself is the experience.
-
salt lake/new town for convenience. if you’re staying or working in the IT hub area, the bars here are decent and you avoid the commute to park street. refinery 091 and ozora are the best options.
-
winter is rooftop season. november to february is when kolkata’s rooftop bars shine. the rest of the year, stick to indoor bars.
-
the adda matters more than the drinks. kolkata drinking culture is about conversation, not cocktails. pick a bar where you can hear your friends talk. avoid the DJ nights if conversation is the goal.
-
kolkata is cheaper than mumbai and delhi. expect to spend 30-40% less on a night out compared to mumbai or bangalore. this is one of the best value drinking cities in india.
-
closing times vary. park street bars typically stay open later (12-2 am) than salt lake/new town bars (11 pm-12 am). plan accordingly.
-
the park street bar crawl is a thing. start at peter cat for chelo kebab and a drink. move to roxy for the heritage experience. end at the grid for cocktails or some place else for live music. the entire crawl happens on one street. it’s the most efficient bar crawl in any indian city.
-
uber/ola back, not driving. kolkata police are strict about drunk driving, and the fines are significant. book a cab. park street to most south kolkata areas is rs 100-200. to salt lake, rs 200-350. worth it.
-
beer towers save money in groups. several bars offer beer towers (2-3 litre towers) at discounted per-glass pricing. for groups of 4+, this is consistently the best value ordering strategy.
area guide: where to drink
park street
the obvious choice. the highest concentration of bars in any single street in india. you can walk from peter cat to roxy to the grid to some place else without needing a cab. the bars are mixed: heritage pubs, modern cocktail bars, live music venues, and restaurant-bars. the crowd is the most diverse. the atmosphere peaks on friday and saturday nights from 9 pm to midnight. the downsides: parking is a nightmare, weekend crowds can be overwhelming, and some bars have queues.
salt lake / sector V
the IT hub’s drinking zone. newer bars, better parking, younger crowd. the scene is more corporate. after-work drinks happen here. the bars are spread out (not walkable like park street), so you’ll need a cab between venues. the prices are slightly lower than park street for comparable drinks. the best bars here (refinery 091, ozora) are worth the trip even if you’re staying in south kolkata.
new town (rajarhat)
the newest area with the newest bars. the scene is still developing. underdoggs, the biker’s cafe, and echoes are the main options. the distances between venues are large (new town is spread out), so bar crawling isn’t practical. the bars here tend to be larger, with better parking and more space than park street options. the crowd is primarily new town residents and IT professionals.
park circus
aqua is the main draw here. the area around park circus has a few other dining and drinking options, but it’s not a bar district in the way park street is. worth visiting specifically for aqua’s rooftop, especially in winter.
camac street
adjacent to park street and home to some of kolkata’s corporate offices. a few bars and restaurants here cater to the business crowd. the drinking scene is quieter and more upscale than park street. not a primary nightlife destination, but worth knowing about if you’re in the area for work.
the final word
kolkata’s bar scene is not india’s flashiest. it doesn’t have bangalore’s craft beer revolution or mumbai’s rooftop lounges or delhi’s bottle-service clubs. what it has is something rarer: authenticity. park street has been india’s drinking street for nearly a century, and the best bars here feel like they belong to a tradition, not a trend.
the grid is the best bar in kolkata for cocktails. roxy is the best for history and atmosphere. some place else is the best for live music, and arguably the best live music venue in india. aqua is the best rooftop. olly pub is the best value. pick based on what you want from your night.
the best night out in kolkata is still the simplest one: park street, a bar with a good crowd, whisky or beer, and four hours of adda with friends. no city in india does that better.
