tl;dr: honest reviews of 15 bars in hyderabad. microbreweries, cocktail bars, rooftop bars, casual pubs. jubilee hills, banjara hills, gachibowli, madhapur. prices and ratings.

tldr: my top 3 out of 15 bars: zero40 brewing in jubilee hills (best craft beer, rs 1,500 for two), the moonshine project in jubilee hills (best cocktails, rs 2,500 for two), and prost brewpub in HITEC city (best after-work spot, rs 1,200 for two). hyderabad’s microbrewery scene is booming. full reviews below.

i haven’t visited hyderabad yet. this guide is based on extensive research - local nightlife blogs, google reviews, instagram feeds, and recommendations from hyderabadi friends who know their bars.

hyderabad has quietly become india’s second-biggest microbrewery market after bangalore. the telangana government’s licensing policies have been more brewery-friendly than most states, and the result is a city with over 40 microbreweries and counting. the concentration is in jubilee hills, banjara hills, and the HITEC city-madhapur corridor.

the drinking culture here is different from mumbai or bangalore. hyderabad’s bar scene skews younger and louder. the biryani-before-drinks tradition is real. and the microbrewery obsession runs deep. hyderabadis will debate whether zero40’s wheat beer is better than prost’s hefeweizen with the same intensity they bring to the paradise-vs-bawarchi biryani debate.

pricing is kind to your wallet. a night out for two that would cost rs 4,000 in mumbai runs rs 1,500-2,000 here. even the premium spots are 30-40% cheaper than equivalent bars in bangalore.

i’ve rated everything out of 10. prices are for two people with drinks. no one paid me for this.

microbreweries

hyderabad’s microbrewery scene is second only to bangalore in india. the city reportedly has over 40 operational microbreweries. the telangana excise department’s relatively straightforward licensing process (compared to the nightmare in maharashtra or delhi) has fueled this boom. the result: hyderabadis have developed genuinely discerning palates for craft beer.

1. zero40 brewing

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 1,500 / 9/10

zero40 is the crown jewel of hyderabad’s microbrewery scene. the name refers to the 40-day brewing cycle they follow, and the patience shows in the beer. the wheat beer is smooth, clean, and dangerously drinkable. the IPA has genuine hop bitterness without being an assault on your taste buds. the stout is rich and full-bodied.

what sets zero40 apart from the other microbreweries is consistency. based on reviews, every batch tastes the same. that might sound basic, but in india’s microbrewery scene, where inconsistency is the norm, it’s remarkable. the brewmaster reportedly has experience at european breweries, and the technical proficiency shows.

the food menu is solid bar fare elevated slightly. the pizzas are good (proper thin crust, not the thick, doughy kind). the nachos are loaded generously. the wings are crispy and well-seasoned. nothing groundbreaking, but everything competently made and priced fairly for the area.

the space is industrial-chic with the brewing tanks visible from the seating area. the weekend crowd is young, loud, and enthusiastic. live music on some nights.

the catch: weekends are packed. reservations are essential for friday and saturday nights. the noise level goes from “lively” to “shouting” after 9 pm. jubilee hills parking is always a battle. and the food, while good, isn’t the reason to visit.

verdict: the best microbrewery in hyderabad. the beer quality is genuine, the vibe is right, and the pricing is fair. if you drink only one craft beer in hyderabad, drink it here.

2. prost brewpub

HITEC city / cost for two: rs 1,200 / 8.5/10

prost is HITEC city’s best bar and hyderabad’s second-best microbrewery. the german-inspired brewing philosophy produces clean, well-made beers. the hefeweizen is reportedly the best wheat beer in hyderabad’s tech corridor. the lager is crisp and honest. they also do seasonal specials that are worth trying.

the location makes it the default after-work spot for the tech crowd. microsoft, google, and amazon employees are reportedly regulars. the crowd is slightly older and more professional than zero40’s, and the noise level is more manageable.

the food leans european. bratwurst, pretzels, and the kind of bar food that pairs naturally with german-style beer. the portions are generous and the pricing is reasonable for the quality.

the catch: the HITEC city location means it’s inconvenient for anyone living in banjara hills or the old city. the space can feel corporate, especially during weekday after-work hours. the beer variety is narrower than zero40. they focus on doing a few styles well rather than experimenting.

verdict: the best bar near HITEC city. dependable craft beer, decent food, and the after-work crowd keeps the vibe professional but fun.

3. over the moon brewpub

madhapur / cost for two: rs 1,500 / 8/10

over the moon combines craft beer with the best rooftop setting among hyderabad’s microbreweries. the open-air terrace overlooks the madhapur skyline, and on a clear evening, the vibe is genuinely good. the beer is well-made. the blonde ale is the most popular, and for good reason. light, refreshing, and easy to drink in hyderabad’s heat.

the food menu is extensive. indian starters (the chicken tikka is reportedly excellent), continental mains, and bar snacks. the kitchen is stronger than most breweries in the city. locals say the tandoori platters paired with the wheat beer make for a great evening.

the catch: the rooftop means you’re at the mercy of hyderabad’s weather. summers (march-june) make outdoor seating unbearable. the indoor section exists but loses the charm. weekends require reservations and the service can slow down when it’s busy.

verdict: the best brewery for a group outing. the rooftop, the beer, and the food together create a complete experience.

4. fat pigeon taproom

gachibowli / cost for two: rs 1,200 / 8/10

fat pigeon is the craft beer bar for the gachibowli and financial district crowd. the tap list rotates and features both their own brews and guest beers from other indian craft breweries. the selection is thoughtful. you’ll find styles beyond the standard wheat beer and lager. expect pale ales, red ales, porters, and occasional experimental batches.

the space is compact and casual. wooden tables, chalkboard menus, and a no-nonsense approach to craft beer. the food is simple but good. the sliders are reportedly the standout item.

the catch: small space means it fills up fast. limited seating. the tap list rotation means your favorite beer might not be available on your next visit.

verdict: the best craft beer bar in gachibowli. intimate, honest, and genuinely focused on good beer.

cocktail bars

for when you want something more creative than a pitcher of wheat beer.

5. the moonshine project

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 2,500 / 8.5/10

the moonshine project is hyderabad’s best cocktail bar. the menu is creative without being gimmicky. smoked cocktails, molecular mixology, house-infused spirits, and classic cocktails made with proper technique. the bartenders reportedly know their craft. they can adjust sweetness, strength, and flavor profile based on your preferences.

the signature moonshine cocktails are worth trying first. the whiskey-based options are particularly strong (this is a city that loves its whiskey, after all). the gin-based cocktails use house-made tonic and fresh botanicals. the old fashioned is well-made. no shortcuts, proper ice, proper stirring.

the ambience is upscale-speakeasy. dim lighting, leather seating, and a bar that’s designed for conversation. the music is at the right volume. you can actually hear the person across the table.

the food menu goes beyond typical bar fare. the small plates are designed to complement cocktails. portions are smaller but the quality is higher than your average pub.

the catch: the pricing is premium for hyderabad. rs 600-800 per cocktail means a few rounds for two will hit rs 2,500-3,000 easily. the space is small and popular, so walk-ins on weekends are risky. the vibe is more “sit and sip” than “stand and party.”

verdict: the best cocktails in hyderabad. if you appreciate well-made drinks and don’t mind paying for them, moonshine is the spot.

6. amnesia lounge bar

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 2,000 / 8/10

amnesia is the moody, atmospheric bar in banjara hills. dim lighting, plush seating, strong drinks, and music that’s curated rather than random. the cocktail menu is solid. not as inventive as moonshine but well-executed. the long island iced tea is reportedly the best in hyderabad. the mojitos are fresh and properly balanced.

the crowd is a mix of young professionals and the banjara hills social scene. the vibe gets livelier as the night progresses. by 10 pm on weekends, it transitions from a cocktail bar to something closer to a lounge-club hybrid.

the catch: the “lounge” part means the music volume increases as the night goes on. conversations become difficult after 10 pm. the pricing has crept up. service can be slow when it’s packed.

verdict: a good cocktail bar with atmosphere. best visited before 10 pm if you want to actually talk to your companions.

casual bars

lower prices, lower pretense, higher fun. these are the bars where you go when you want drinks without the fuss.

7. 10 downing street

multiple locations (jubilee hills, banjara hills, gachibowli) / cost for two: rs 1,500 / 8/10

10 downing street is hyderabad’s most popular pub chain and has been for years. the formula is simple: reasonably priced drinks, decent food, loud music, and a crowd that’s there to have fun. the jubilee hills outlet is reportedly the best. bigger space, better maintained, and the most energetic weekend crowd.

the drinks menu covers everything. draft beer, cocktails, shots, and IMFL. the pricing is mid-range. the food is standard pub fare done competently. the chicken wings, nachos, and pasta are the safe orders.

what makes 10 downing street work is the vibe. it’s unpretentious. you can show up in jeans and a t-shirt, order a pitcher of beer, and nobody judges you. the music is mainstream bollywood and english pop. the dance floor gets active after 10 pm.

the catch: it’s loud. conversations require shouting. the multiple locations mean inconsistent quality. the jubilee hills outlet is the benchmark, while some other outlets reportedly have slipped. the crowd skews young (early 20s) on weekends. the food is functional, not memorable.

verdict: the most reliable pub experience in hyderabad. not the best at anything specific, but consistently good at everything.

8. heart cup coffee

multiple locations / cost for two: rs 800 / 7.5/10

heart cup coffee is technically a cafe-bar hybrid, but after 6 pm it functions primarily as a bar. the pricing is the cheapest among decent bars in hyderabad. rs 800 for two with drinks is hard to beat. the cocktails are basic but drinkable. the beer selection covers the standard domestic and international options.

the food menu is extensive. burgers, pastas, indian starters, and the kind of cafe food that transitions into bar snacks at night. the quality is consistent across outlets.

the vibe is casual and young. college students and early-career professionals dominate. live music at some outlets on weekends adds to the atmosphere.

the catch: the “coffee” in the name is aspirational. the coffee is mediocre. the cocktails are basic. the food is average. the value is in the pricing, not the quality. the crowd can skew very young on weekends.

verdict: the best budget bar in hyderabad. if you want drinks without spending much, heart cup is the obvious choice.

9. coco’s bar & grill

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 2,000 / 7.5/10

coco’s is a jubilee hills bar that focuses equally on food and drinks. the grill section is the standout. steaks, burgers, and grilled chicken done properly over charcoal. the drinks menu is standard but well-executed. the bar stocks a decent whiskey selection, which matters in a whiskey-loving city.

the space is designed for groups. large tables, a spacious layout, and music that’s loud enough for atmosphere but not so loud that you can’t hear your friends.

the catch: the pricing is mid-to-high for hyderabad. the cocktail menu lacks creativity. it’s a safe choice rather than an exciting one.

verdict: a solid option when you want good food with your drinks. the grill makes it worth visiting.

10. autumn leaf

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 1,500 / 7.5/10

autumn leaf operates as a cafe by day and a bar by night. the evening menu adds cocktails, mocktails, and a selection of wines and beers. the transition works well. the cozy atmosphere that makes it a great brunch spot becomes intimate and warm at night. the wooden interiors, warm lighting, and soft music create a setting that’s perfect for conversation.

the cocktails are decent. the wine selection is surprisingly good for hyderabad, with options from indian and international vineyards. the food remains strong through the evening, with the brunch items giving way to appetizers and small plates. the desserts paired with after-dinner drinks is a combination that reportedly works well. the tiramisu with an espresso martini is a popular pairing.

the catch: it’s more of a cafe that serves alcohol than a proper bar. if you want a high-energy night out, autumn leaf is too quiet. the bar menu is limited compared to dedicated bars. the cocktail pricing is slightly high for what are basic preparations.

verdict: the best option for a quiet evening drink with good food. ideal for dates and small group conversations. not a party spot.

rooftop bars

hyderabad’s weather (october-february) is perfect for rooftop drinking. the summers will kill you.

11. air live

jubilee hills / cost for two: rs 2,000 / 8.5/10

air live is hyderabad’s best rooftop bar. open-air seating with city views, a well-stocked bar, and a DJ that plays the right music at the right volume. the cocktails are good. the whiskey sours and gin-based drinks are reportedly the strongest items on the menu. the beer selection covers domestic and imported options.

the rooftop itself is well-designed. proper seating (not plastic chairs), fairy lights, and enough space that it doesn’t feel cramped. the views of the jubilee hills skyline are genuinely attractive at night.

the food is above average for a rooftop bar. the kebab platters pair well with drinks. the dim sum menu is an unexpected addition that reportedly works well.

the catch: weather-dependent. unusable during hyderabad’s brutal summer months (march-june) and during the monsoon. reservations are mandatory on weekends. the pricing is premium. the stairway to the rooftop is narrow and can feel crowded.

verdict: the best rooftop bar in hyderabad. visit between october and february for the full experience.

12. patio gastropub

gachibowli / cost for two: rs 1,500 / 8/10

patio is the gachibowli answer to the jubilee hills rooftop bars. a partially open-air setting with a food-forward approach. the “gastropub” label is earned. the food menu is more ambitious than most bars. the pulled pork sliders, the fish tacos, and the grilled chicken are all reportedly excellent. the portion sizes are generous.

the drinks menu is solid. craft beer on tap, a decent cocktail list, and reasonable pricing. the weekend brunch menu with bottomless mimosas is reportedly a good deal.

the catch: gachibowli means it draws primarily the tech/financial district crowd. the ambience is pleasant but not spectacular compared to the jubilee hills rooftops. parking is actually easier here than jubilee hills, which is a rare advantage.

verdict: the best bar in gachibowli. great food, decent drinks, and easier access than the jubilee hills scene.

nightclub-style bars

13. broadway the club

secunderabad / cost for two: rs 1,200 / 7/10

broadway is hyderabad’s answer to the nightclub experience. a dance floor with proper sound, a DJ booth, and a crowd that’s there to dance. the drinks are standard. vodka-based cocktails and beer are the main orders. the music is bollywood, EDM, and commercial english. the energy peaks around 11 pm.

the secunderabad location means it draws a different crowd than the jubilee hills and banjara hills bars. slightly older, slightly more diverse. the space is large enough that it doesn’t feel claustrophobic even on weekends.

the catch: the “nightclub” experience in hyderabad is limited by the 11:30 pm-12 am closing time that telangana enforces. the drinks are average. the food is an afterthought. if you’ve experienced nightclubs in mumbai or bangalore, broadway will feel subdued.

verdict: the best dancing spot in hyderabad. limited by the early closing time, but the dance floor delivers while it’s open.

14. the square (novotel)

HITEC city / cost for two: rs 2,500 / 7.5/10

the square at novotel is the hotel bar option near HITEC city. the advantage is hotel-bar reliability. consistent drinks, professional service, comfortable seating, and a quiet environment. the whiskey selection is reportedly one of the best in the HITEC city area. single malts that you won’t find at the breweries. glenfiddich, glenmorangie, and macallan are reportedly available, which is a rarity in hyderabad’s bar scene.

the crowd is business travelers, tech executives, and people who want a drink without the noise of a brewery. the food is hotel-quality continental and indian. the bar snacks are above average. the service is attentive without being hovering. you can sit alone with a whiskey and a book and nobody will bother you.

the happy hour reportedly offers decent discounts on select drinks. for the HITEC city professional crowd, the square functions as a quiet after-work spot where you can decompress without shouting over music.

the catch: hotel bar pricing. the atmosphere is “professional” which can translate to “boring” depending on your mood. no live music, no DJ, no energy. this is a place for conversation, not celebration. the decor is generic hotel-bar. nothing memorable.

verdict: the best quiet bar near HITEC city. for when you want to drink whiskey in peace.

15. b-dubs (buffalo wild wings)

banjara hills / cost for two: rs 1,800 / 7.5/10

b-dubs brought the american sports bar concept to hyderabad. multiple screens showing live sports, a menu built around chicken wings in 20+ sauce flavors, and pitchers of beer. the wings are the draw. the sauces range from mild to face-melting, and the wings themselves are properly sized and well-fried. the bone-in traditional wings are better than the boneless. the mango habanero sauce is reportedly the most popular flavor in the hyderabad outlet.

the sports bar setup works well during IPL season and international cricket matches. cold beer, hot wings, and a game on the big screen. it’s not sophisticated, but it’s fun. the atmosphere during an india cricket match is reportedly electric. a roomful of people eating wings and cheering for boundaries.

the beer selection covers domestic and imported options. the pitchers are generous and fairly priced for the banjara hills area. the other menu items (burgers, wraps, salads) exist but the wings are the only reason to visit.

the catch: the american franchise pricing means it’s more expensive than local bars for a similar experience. the wings are good but the rest of the menu is average. it can feel like you’re in any city in the world rather than in hyderabad. the non-wing food is forgettable.

verdict: the best sports bar in hyderabad. visit during a cricket match with wings and a pitcher.

the bar map of hyderabad

jubilee hills: the epicenter. zero40, moonshine project, air live, 10 downing street. the most variety and the best quality. parking is the only problem.

banjara hills: amnesia, autumn leaf, b-dubs, coco’s. slightly calmer than jubilee hills, more lounge-oriented.

HITEC city / madhapur: prost, over the moon, fat pigeon, the square. the tech corridor bars. good for after-work, less intense on weekends than jubilee hills.

gachibowli: patio gastropub, fat pigeon. growing scene, easier parking, younger crowd.

secunderabad: broadway the club and a few others. limited options, different vibe from the rest of the city.

hyderabad bar tips

the closing time is real. telangana enforces a midnight closing time for most bars. some get an extension to 1 am. plan accordingly. pre-gaming at home is common. don’t show up at 11 pm expecting a full evening. most bars start the “last order” call around 11:15 pm.

reservations matter on weekends. the popular bars (zero40, moonshine, air live) fill up by 8 pm on friday and saturday. book ahead or arrive early. walk-ins on weekend nights are a gamble at the best places.

brewery hopping is a thing. jubilee hills has enough microbreweries within walking distance that a craft beer crawl is possible. start at zero40, walk to another, and work your way through. three to four breweries in one evening is doable if you pace yourself.

the auto-rickshaw back home. uber and ola surge pricing kicks in around 11 pm near the bar areas. book early or be prepared to pay 2x. metro doesn’t run late enough to be useful. designate a sober driver or plan your ride before the third round.

stag entry policies exist. several bars in jubilee hills and banjara hills restrict solo male entry or charge higher cover charges for men without female companions on weekends. this is standard in hyderabad’s nightlife scene. couples and groups get easier entry.

the craft beer pricing formula. at microbreweries, a pint of freshly brewed beer costs rs 200-350. that’s significantly cheaper than bottled imported beer at the same venues. always go for the brewed-in-house options. it’s fresher, cheaper, and the entire point of visiting a brewery.

why hyderabad’s microbrewery scene is booming

hyderabad is reportedly india’s second-largest microbrewery market after bangalore, and the gap is closing. several factors drive this. the telangana excise department has streamlined the licensing process compared to states like maharashtra, where getting a brewery license requires navigating byzantine regulations. the result: opening a microbrewery in hyderabad is faster and cheaper than in mumbai.

the tech industry provides the customer base. young professionals with disposable income who’ve traveled to places like portland, berlin, and melbourne want craft beer at home. they know the difference between a hefeweizen and a pilsner, and they’re willing to pay for quality.

the climate helps too. hyderabad’s weather is warm enough that cold beer is appealing most of the year. the wheat beers and lagers that dominate local menus are perfect for the climate.

and then there’s the competition effect. once zero40 proved that a quality microbrewery could succeed in hyderabad, others followed. the competition has pushed quality up and prices down. the customer benefits.

the one concern: the rapid expansion means some microbreweries are mediocre, riding the trend rather than the quality. the list above includes only the ones that based on reviews consistently deliver good beer. many more exist. not all are worth your time.
